The Bentley Flying Spur’s speed gathers menacingly and cornering remains amazingly flat. Pretty amazing stuff for a car that looks like it should be trundling along with Her Majesty’s patented wave just peeking through a cracked rear window.

“Super,” “luxury,” “sport,” and “sedan” don’t often appear in the same sentence. Not that long ago, the idea of a super-luxury sport sedan would have seemed a total contradiction in terms. But the Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed pulls off the near-impossible.

The Bentley is no slug, even on rough, twisty roads. Passing is a breeze at any speed. And it feels sportier than rival Rolls-Royce, whose ambition, after all, is to waft the driver—or, more likely, the back-seat passenger—from Point A to Point B.

The Bentley Flying Spur Speed is as big as a Spanish galleon, sucks fuel like a Saturn V rocket, and costs as much as a house. Oh, and it hits 60 in 4.2 seconds.

Comparing a Flying Spur Speed to the regular version is quite telling. It is far more capable if the driver intends to get aggressive through twisties.
