Unlike some supercars that can’t find their capes when they’re off the track, the Corvette ZR1 is always poised, controlled, and quick-witted.

The ZR1 has been upgraded and enhanced for 2012, so what is it like to drive America’s premier sports car on public roads? Can the beast be reasonably tamed? Be pleased to learn that this evil brute is nearly everything expected, a little less and then a whole lot more.

Sure, you don’t get the supercar badge or mid-engine placement that you get with the many a Prancing Horse or Raging Bull, but for $106,000 the Corvette ZR1 provides more horsepower, far more torque, and just as thrilling a driving experience.

With 638 horsepower and a suspension set up more for Daytona than down town, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 may be too much of a good thing. What good is a sports car if you can ’t drive it on a dinner date, potholes and all?
