This well-equipped, well-engineered Chevrolet Cruze, which is nearly midsize when it comes to interior and cargo space, will likely be priced right there with the top competitors—a price that for a change ought to be justified by the quality of the product.

If the price is realistic, I won’t be surprised to see the Chevrolet Cruze one clamouring near the top of the compact charts along with its import competition.

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze has better handling and a more enjoyable engine than its admittedly aging Honda and Toyota competition. We worried that the small 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine might not deliver, but its turbocharger makes for entertaining if not blistering performance.

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze proves that GM is putting some real development dollars into its small cars. The best way to describe how the Cruze drives is to say it’s like a grown-up small car.

The 2011 Chevy Cruze certainly isn’t a car that will set your heart racing, but it manages to combine refined ride quality with no-nonsense, space-efficient packaging. Count us as extremely impressed.

Here is the executive summary for the new Chevrolet Cruze: A huge quantum leap up and forward from the Cobalt it replaces; not the best car in its segment (although it’s a very, good car in its class), but, probably the best-value car in the segment in terms of what kind of car you get for the money.

The Cruze is far and away the best compact Chevrolet has offered. Compact car buyers want luxuries, technology, safety, options and solid build quality, and will no longer settle for a low-price stripped-down small car. The Cruze addresses this new breed.

Chevrolet’s Cruze represents itself very well in a crowded and very competitive market segment. If you are shopping compacts, Cruze should certainly be on your must-drive list.

Put simply, there is no car sold today in the Cruze’s class that is more appealing. The exterior styling will not snap too many necks, but it’s clean and sporty.

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze sedan offers unmatched interior room, crisp handling, and good fuel economy. It’s clearly the best compact sedan Chevrolet has ever built, but it needs a bit more refinement to lead in a segment full of excellent small cars.

the Cruze is a sitting duck for improvement: a B student that’s finally moved up from a failing grade. A mid-cycle refresh with specific attention paid to some of the quality and interior shortcomings would put the car squarely in the running with other cars in the segment.

The 2011 Cruze is the not the biggest or most expensive Chevy sedan, but it is the best. Chevrolet went to great lengths to turn the Cruze into a rolling isolation chamber. The calm within the cabin is another reason the car feels more upscale than it is.
