The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 certainly ups the ante in the brute strength quotient, but it’s anything but awkward. Even the most ham-fisted hero drivers among us can now wield it.

The Viper ACR is raw. It’s wired. And it’s probably the best weekend racer yet from Detroit. A road car you can drive to the track, hot lap all day, and drive back home, tires, brakes, and ego intact.

With 600 hp, a 0-60 time less than 4 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph is “overkill,” you’re starting to understand what the Viper is about.

It is compliant and competent; impressive without being edgy. It is not scary and the attitude is nearer disdain than debauchery. And it no longer sounds like a supercharged UPS truck.

The Viper SRT10 is the least driver-friendly car we’ve evaluated in the sense that a racecar set loose on a city street can be very unfriendly if you don’t leave the Big Gulp and cell phone behind, know what you’re doing.
