The Genesis Coupe is the ponycar for the twenty-first century, as important to some people as the original Mustang was in 1964. Except, of course, for the fact that this 2011 V-6 Mustang is superior in virtually every respect, from interior quality to high-speed handling.

The 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 is a fast, competent, well-sorted performance car that delivers M3-level performance at half the price.

The 2011 Mustang V-6 is a damned good car. The 5.0, on the other hand, is better than damned good. Unless your shopping list starts at Gallardo money, it should include a Mustang GT.

The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is a unique combination of massive pace and pleasant on-track demeanor, wrapped up in a gorgeous package.

The 2013 Mustang GT is a gorgeous, big-hearted, hugely quick car which didn’t rattle, squeak, or display any quality problems. It’s the best all-around ponycar in history, and the head of its class.

The 2011 Mustang delivers quicker acceleration, sharper handling, and a better driving character, yet its best quality may be that it’s an agitator. By taking such a direct shot at the Camaro, Ford has forced Chevrolet to return fire.

Bottom line, the new 2011 V6 Mustang won me over. It’s affordable at less than $23,000 MSRP, it’s powerful with more than 300 hp, and it gets great gas mileage with 31 mpg highway.

For driving enthusiasts of all ages, the 2011 Ford Mustang GT continues to represent the quintessential American sport coupe. The last two model years have proven a major leap forward the areas of performance, styling and interior design.

What’s most striking is how Ford managed to further civilize the 2011 Mustang without removing the visceral character, especially in the GT. It feels on par with sports cars from Germany, and that’s a big compliment.

The 2011 Ford Mustang is a combination of the best of 2010 GT matched with 97 more horses under the hood, a tighter suspension, and slightly better fuel economy.

If you’re looking for something a bit more demure, a pussycat that can become a panther only when it needs to, then Ford Mustang V6 is the way to go. An unbeatable combination of price, fuel economy, performance, and comfort make this my favorite pony car for 2011.
