We like the new Taurus SHO. It looks better than ever now and it’s packed with technology. The SHO is quite a lot of car for the money, and will for most people be a very satisfying car to own. However, we do wish it was more special than it actually is.

The 2013 Ford Taurus SHO is a genuinely civilized and comfortable luxury car that just happens to be quite at home on the race track. Agreeable meets aggressive halfway, with little compromise on either side.

Taurus SHO that should stand out among rivals with sports-sedan pretensions. It’s agile, composed, quiet, and comfortable (as long as you’re not in the tight back seat), with smooth, linear power delivery.

The SHO seems like a pointless but very cool exercise in engineering that ultimately serves as a halo for the Taurus lineup itself, and allows Ford’s performance division to hone its skills for the days when V8s will no longer be the performance tool of choice.

If you’re a big-car guy who wants the acceleration of the muscle car you drove when you were young, but the comfort of your mother’s Lincoln, then the Taurus SHO is probably perfect for you.

The Ford Taurus SHO wants to be a performance car, but comes up short in a few critical areas. It could be a family car, but it’s too cramped inside. It’s comfortable cruising down the highway, but it’s a pain on narrow city streets.

The Ford Taurus SHO left us with mixed emotions. On one hand, we loved its refined ride, torque monster V6 and cossetting seats, as well as its overwhelming spaciousness. But it never truly felt special to us.
