Any vehicle that can keep me as happy, as free of back pain and as entertained as the 2012 GMC Terrain did for a thousand miles should win an award. Even with just a few minor upgrades, it should remain popular in 2012.

The Denali does little to transform the Terrain driving experience, but it provides easy shopping for those who want a loaded-up SUV with less bulk than GMC’s bigger offerings but no less bling.

While it’s rare to hear words like “stylish” and “sophisticated” used to describe a compact crossover, they’re a fitting characterization of the 2012 GMC Terrain.

A better V6 engine option and premium style make the 2013 GMC Terrain a top choice for those shopping for compact crossovers.

The GMC Terrain is the champ for front- and back-seat space, and while its styling may be controversial, it’s certainly the most unique-looking SUV this side of the Jeep Wrangler. I certainly wouldn’t recommend against buying one… just don’t make me look at it, okay?

The GMC Terrain is best suited to young families or active couples. It seats five in a well-designed, nicely finished cabin, with state-of-the-art powertrains, advanced safety systems and convenience features, and class-leading fuel economy.

Despite everything that I enjoyed about the Terrain, with gas prices nearing the $4-per-gallon mark, the Terrain’s “fuel efficiency” is a deal breaker for me.

GMC has cleverly packaged as a truck what is, in essence, a tall wagon. This alone is sufficient to set it apart in the segment. The Terrain is a car—sorry, truck—for real guys and gals with real money in the pockets of their Levis.

If you’re on the market for a spacious two-row SUV and aren’t too concerned with fuel economy, the Terrain is a solid choice, particularly if you prefer boxes to bubbles and want some athleticism when hauling little athletes.

The Terrain Denali is better than the standard model in all ways, providing an improved interior while capturing the attention of sidewalk onlookers with imposing SUV looks and plenty of chrome. Add V6 power to that and an extensive list of new technology features and there’s a lot to appreciate.

The GMC Terrain Denali might very well be the best member of the Equinox/Terrain family, blending practicality, style, and luxury into a very compelling package.
