With more bells and whistles than I could count, the 2009 Hyundai Genesis appeared to be a knight in shining armor…at first. But my test car, the top-of-the-line Genesis, was just as expensive as many of its luxury competitors.

The Genesis is competing against midsize family sedans like the Maxima, Avalon, and G8. There’s no doubt that it offers more amenities, space, and comfort than any of those cars, plus the Genesis is backed by Hyundai’s 10-year warranty. It’s an honest-to-God steal.

Is the Genesis a knockoff? Absolutely. A knockout? More of a jarring right-left combination that’ll leave Lexus a bit dazed, and realizing that Hyundai deserves its full attention and respect.

The 2009 Hyundai Genesis is one of the best new entries into the luxury market in years. The stereotype of cheaply built Korean cars may be a part of the past.
