The audience seems broad for Veloster and we like the way the car backs up its looks with its driving chops. Hyundai’s getting a bit less conservative, it seems, while building a coupe that appeals to head, along with heart.

It’s not door count or horsepower or weight that disqualifies the Veloster from second-coming-of-CRX status. It’s that the Veloster just isn’t that much fun to drive.

The Veloster is sexy. It’s also very practical in terms of rear-seat passenger ingress and egress, and in terms of cargo capacity. It’s an economy car, but it’s zippy for what it is.

The Hyundai Veloster is an all-new car and an engineering gem. Its 1.6-liter engine is smooth, powerful and efficient; the ride and handling are spot-on, and the 6-speed gearbox is fun. Distinctive styling, terrific interior and 32 mpg at $17,300 bring it all together for these times.
