I’m really pleased to see that the G25 is a proper G — a sports car thinly disguised as a luxury sedan. But the G’s firmer, louder ride may not be to everyone’s tastes.

Ihe IPL G Coupe feels much like Goldilocks’ choice of porridge-not too hot, not too cold. Compared to the regular Infiniti G37 S, the IPL-tuned coupe feels a little less rough. Power gains feel more impressive than they likely are.

If you’re shopping $40,000 sport sedans, the Infiniti G37 is required driving: It is smartly appointed, well-equipped, reliable and as much of a hoot to drive as the BMW 3 Series.

The G25 is just as much sedan—just with a little less engine. You don’t give up anything else, however: it’s got the same conservatively aggressive good looks, the same austere but functional (if somewhat small) interior, and the same fantastic handling and suspension tuning.

The Infiniti G sedan excels at driving dynamics. The interior is friendly and feature-laden without being too busy. The G is priced lower than most comparably equipped European competitors. We think it’s a good choice for performance-oriented drivers.

The priced right G25 offers all the power and features most any buyer could ask for from an entry-luxury sedan. Like a yoga master focused on strengthening the core, the G25 eschews the brute force of the G37 to deliver a very pleasing package.

The Infiniti IPL G Coupe brings a fresh attitude to the luxury performance coupe segment. It’s brash, capable, and unapologetically rough around the edges. We don’t really see the point, but we had fun driving it anyway.
