With more expressive styling, better handling, and all the modern conveniences, the 2013 edition should also help Lexus lower the average age of the ES buyer.

The Lexus ES is roomy, safe, easy to drive and well finished in attractive materials. It makes a compelling argument for anyone who needs a four or five-passenger sedan.

The 2013 Lexus ES lands well ahead of its rivals. It is a much better ES, one that should keep current owners happy, as well as attract new ones. The ES350 has gotten a tiny bit more dynamic, but not at the risk of sacrificing any of the silkiness or extreme comfort that the brand is known for.

The 2013 Lexus ES is just as quiet and comfortable as its predecessor, only now it’s a little bit better. No, it’s not any quicker, but it’s more fuel-efficient. Plus, both ES models are roomier and available with more features.

Favoring luxury over outright performance, the ES 350 offers a coddling cabin and enough insulation from noise and vibration to please most anyone. Its engine is smooth and strong enough for a luxury-themed sedan with no sport-sedan pretenses.

This is still the comfortable, nicely appointed, affordable luxury car it has always been. The ES’s humble roots leave little room for massaging the car into a performer to match the brand’s aspirations.

While it won’t compete in the sport-sedan segment, it was a surprise to feel how composed this family hauler was on twisty back roads. Combined with the increased interior volume, Lexus has redesigned the ES with their sights straight on conquest sales and owner satisfaction.

The 2013 Lexus ES 350 should continue to please its loyal customer base while being updated enough to remain relevant in this competitive entry-level luxury sedan segment. It remains the standard-bearer for a relaxed, luxuriously insulated form of transportation.

This incremental boost in dexterity probably will mix with the newfound aesthetic mettle to pull in a respectable number of newcomers to the ES line. Meanwhile, these cars adhere to Lexus’ inoffensive approach to comfort and luxury and thus will please a fan base wary of surprises.

The 2013 Lexus ES isn’t quite a fun-to-drive luxury car. It is a capable and comfortable sedan that has improved driving dynamics over past generations. Its interior is one of the best in its class and its new, more aggressive styling is sharp and distinctive.
