Lexus, watch out – Lincoln has a serious contender on its hands with the 2011 MKX. It’s combination of quality materials, technical features and distinctive looks are hard to beat, ensuring luxury buyers will take notice.

The 2013 Lincoln MKX could work out well for shoppers prioritizing interior room and features. But it also has its fair share of drawbacks.

The improvements to the 2011 Lincoln MKX go well beyond cosmetics. The solidity of the original has been made more so, with exterior and interior styling that is distinctively upscale. Plus, the new V6 and better brakes add some adrenaline to the driving.

If you’re in the market for a midsize crossover vehicle, the Lincoln MKX merits a test-drive, especially if you’re considering the Cadillac SRX. It’s better than its flagging sales would indicate.

The new MKX is at the top of its class, a great combination of luxury, technology, driving dynamics and value. As an SUV critic, I’m really impressed by how Lincoln has improved the MKX from an also-ran to a front-runner.

What we have here—finally—is a competitive MKX. Enthusiasts who demand luxury from their SUV or crossover might perhaps be happier with an Audi Q5 or maybe even a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but this Lincoln should satisfy most everyone else.

With more power, a quieter cabin and an interior that’s finally becoming of a true luxury brand, the MKX has the makings of a sales winner. We’re just not sure the Lincoln high-rider is far enough away from its kissing-cousin, the Ford Edge.

I like the look of the MKX’s interior, and somehow remain fond of the controls. After experiencing them, conventional controls look and feel antiquated. But, by any practical measure, the MKX does nothing especially well.

The Lincoln MKX is a conservative midsize crossover that nonetheless offers up a serving of genuine luxury and technology. Not every luxury buyer wants something sporty or edgy.

Calling the 2011 MKX new is a bit of a stretch (technically its more like a massive mid-cycle update), but Ford has engineered enough changes to make it not only stand apart from its predecessor, but also to make it harder for the competition in this segment.

The 2011 Lincoln MKX comes off as a convincing luxury crossover, sumptuous inside with a cosseting driving experience and a bit of flair on the outside. This is Lincoln’s best product — and that speaks to the quality of the Ford Edge on which it’s based.

The Lincoln MKX is quiet, has a solid engine and decent appearance—though it’s a bit too close to the Ford Edge in bloodlines. The MKX does win in technology—it’s loaded. Lincoln did a nice job here, putting its head down and improving a lot. Consumers should at least give it a look.
