After two solid days of driving the 2011 Lotus Evora S, I’m not sure if I should write a review about it or erect a temple and pray to it.

The Lotus Evora is a real driver’s car. With precise engineering, phenomenal handling, and stunningly good looks, it’s easy to overlook the Evora’s weak spots.

The Evora looks fabulous, it’s a quantum leap up in Lotus refinement and driveability, yet it retains the feathery, purebred feel of its feisty two-seat siblings.

On a great road, there are few cars that are more rewarding than an Evora S. But we’re in the era of the no-compromises sports car, when machines more extreme than this are expected to deliver both scorching performance and everyday usability.

It’s impossible not to love the Lotus Evora S, even if you don’t always like it. It’s wickedly fast, incredibly capable, and easy to drive at the limit.

Good cars make you feel like a hero. Great cars compliment and connect with every fiber of your being. The Evora S falls into the latter camp.

At the end of the day, the 2011 Lotus Evora can keep up with its Elise and Exige stablemates just fine. And it accomplishes this feat with a much quieter cabin and a more comfortable ride quality.

The Evora S moves the game seriously on for Lotus in this more upscale part of the world. The understated supercar looks will not go unappreciated by buyers or spectators, and the proposition for enthusiast drivers is superb indeed.

According to Lotus, the Evora will get to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and 100 mph in 12.3. It’ll top out at 162 mph. My only complaint? I wish the Toyota engine sounded better.

The 2011 Lotus Evora is a Lotus. As purebred and track-ready as the rest of the Lotus family, but one that brings fresh new DNA to one of the world’s purest sports car bloodlines.

Lotus seems as if it’s ready to break out of its niche as a maker of hobby cars to become a mainstream manufacturer. You can actually live with an Evora every day.
