This little racer may have the looks of a bloated “Dungeons & Dragons” 20-sided die, but its little turbo is to die for. Fun cars surprise us and the MazdaSpeed3 is full of surprises.

Mazda’s frisky MazdaSpeed3 continues as one of our all time favorites. For 2010, in some ways – more refined, in others – more ferocious, but always entertaining. And, we might add, for a factory tuned hot hatchback, extremely affordable and even practical.

What impresses me most about the Mazda Speed 3 is its ability to be a near-race car one moment, then a sedate grocery-getter the next.

Styling wasn’t what the MS3 was all about when it was introduced. It was about being a practical and cost-effective ass-kicker. And the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 still is.

Some cars are so much fun to drive that it is hard to send them back at the end of a test drive. The MazdaSpeed3 is just such a car, and with a base price of $23,195, it is one of the performance bargains of the year.

The 2010 Mazdaspeed3 offers fun on twisty roads at a bargain price, good looks (although we’re still trying to get used to the new nose), and the practical functionality of a hatchback.
