The Nissan Altima 3.5 SR is a top choice for family-sedan shoppers who like to drive but don’t want to sacrifice the practicality and comfort for which this segment is known.

With the 2013 Altima’s redesign, Nissan stays true to the car’s sporty identity and adds to its appeal with impressive EPA-estimated gas mileage and available high-tech features.

The 2012 Nissan Altima is a solid pick for a midsize sedan or coupe, particularly if you’re looking for something with some sporting flair.

The 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5 S provides good acceleration, thanks in part to its transmission tech, and handling that, while not sporty, is capable and predictable.

The Altima Sedan is roomy, comfortable and stylish, and overall we consider it a great choice versus the competition.

The 2013 Nissan Altima is more comfortable, attractive and better-equipped than its price suggests. It is also an extremely frugal fuel user. We found the standard four-cylinder engine sluggish and the sedan offered only average dynamics and feedback on the road.

This family sedan looks and feels more upscale, has sophisticated new technology, and gets far better gas mileage than the model it replaces. But the improvements come with a tradeoff: The new Nissan Altima has lost its sporty character.

While we don’t think it garners the gold, the Altima is still a very solid effort, and one that easily out-handles and is more fun to drive than its main rivals. That makes it a very appealing family four-door to us.

The 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 S still remains a strong choice for anyone looking for a roomy, economical sedan that is also well-trimmed and enjoyable to drive.

The new Altima is packed full of tech goodies aped from more expensive vehicles, and its chassis is capable of hustling when it has to. In fact, the only place it really disappoints is in its looks.

The 2013 Nissan Altima isn’t cheap, and it doesn’t stand out from the crowd aside from offering the highest EPA numbers. But if something has been working well, you don’t futz with it. For the most part, Nissan hasn’t.
