For the money, it’s going to be difficult to find anything that comes close to the breathtaking performance and pure driving pleasure of the all-new 911 Carrera S.

If the standard coupe is the best all-around 911 ever, then the Cabrio is all that and then some, purists be damned. It’s so close in performance and feel to the coupe that few will notice the difference. Add in the slick-looking top that works better than ever and the allure is undeniable.

The new Porsche 911 cabriolet is hugely convincing. In fact, it’s hard to think of an open-top performance car with such a broad set of abilities—and such entertaining qualities.

The 2012 model is the ultimate folding-roof 911. It is exceptionally accessible with a phenomenal ride, a remarkably quiet cabin, and a sumptuous cockpit. The 911 is still an athlete, too.

Bottom line, you get to soak up the sun, and have just about as much fun in the 911 Cabriolet as you do in the coupe. The best 911 Cabriolet ever? Believe it.

The 2012 Porsche 911 is all-new – 90% of its parts are fresh. More electronics have creeped into the driving equation, but when they work this well, it’s hard to complain about them. Grab the wheel of a new 911, find some twisties, and enjoy the ride… We sure did!

A hardtop is certainly the purer sport experience in any car, but the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet convertible gives up little to its exceptional coupe sibling. For its combination of sportiness and open-air driving, its high price might be more justified.

That the GTS is so good isn’t at all surprising. It is just one more opportunity to appreciate how well the 911 has aged. Our only grievance with the GTS is the obnoxious cacophony of road and engine noise that reverberates inside the coupe at highway speeds.

If you bought this GTS over a similarly equipped 2011 Carrera S, you’d save $5230. And you’d get the wider hips, nifty wheels, sport exhaust, and the Alcantara for free. It represents the best rebate you’ll ever get on a Carrera.

For $204K, you might expect the 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster to come with a race-tuned motor, track-optimized chassis or a spare Porsche Cayenne for bad weather. But, no — the Speedster is very much as it appears to be. That is, a 911 Carrera S Cabriolet with a bit more attitude and a lot less roof.

While the 911 Speedster is rare, fast and expensive, it’s not the rarest, fastest or most expensive 911. This begs the question, “Is this car significant?” The reality is, it’s not. It’s just another pseudo-special 911 variant that Porsche is using to help boost revenue.
