The seventh-generation 911 is an engineering masterpiece: bigger and more powerful, but lighter, faster and more fuel-efficient than the car it replaces. Porsche’s limited resources announce themselves in a lack of some features and the need for refinement in the automatic stop-start system.

What makes the 911 Carrera exceptional is how it combines unprecedented performance and reasonable day-to-day livability with some of the visceral experience many sporty cars have sacrificed.

The 2012 Porsche 911 is all-new – 90% of its parts are fresh. More electronics have creeped into the driving equation, but when they work this well, it’s hard to complain about them. Grab the wheel of a new 911, find some twisties, and enjoy the ride… We sure did!

Bottom line, you get to soak up the sun, and have just about as much fun in the 911 Cabriolet as you do in the coupe. The best 911 Cabriolet ever? Believe it.

Longer, lighter, quicker, roomier, and more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S is an evolutionary masterpiece of speed, style, and technology. The S gets to carry the mantle as the one — the greatest all-around 911 ever.

Yep, best 911 ever. The new 991 is larger, faster, sportier and more efficient. With its near-perfect blend of style, speed and technology, it’s a surefire winner.

The 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful and fastest production Porsche of all time (including the Carrera GT). But, for everyday riding and eve on twisty backroads, the Turbo S is easier, more fun and, in most people’s hands, probably also quicker. It also costs about $100K less.

The 2012 model is the ultimate folding-roof 911. It is exceptionally accessible with a phenomenal ride, a remarkably quiet cabin, and a sumptuous cockpit. The 911 is still an athlete, too.

The 911 GT2 RS is for the hardcore enthusiast who seeks the ultimate Porsche driving experience; casual fans need not apply. There will only be 500 GT2 RSs produced worldwide, each with a starting price of $245,000.

The 2012 911 Carrera S is brazen, an athletic machine on 20-inch alloys. It’s Brooklyn Decker in a Hervé Léger bandage dress and Louboutin heels.

We’ve never felt Porsche has gone too far with the 911 concept. We still don’t, really. But we do think the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is very near the limit, because we don’t see what more can be achieved by loading up the 911’s rear-engine design with even more power.
