The 2010 Porsche Turbo Cabriolet is the single best automobile I’ve ever driven in my lifetime and likely ever will. There, I said it.

The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo is everything we expected it to be and more: more comfortable, more powerful, more capable, more fuel-efficient and only a little more expensive. Porsche has once again built the ultimate everyday supercar.

The second-generation 911 Turbo is so well equipped, secure in all weathers thanks to four-wheel drive, you can see out of it, stick kids in the back and Porsche has even cut emissions by 18 percent. It might not be the sexiest 911 these days, but right now, it really is the greatest.

This is exactly the soul-chewing, face-pulling monster you’d expect of a new Porsche Turbo Cabriolet: fitful and furious, hyperkinetic, breathtakingly responsive, with big, whopping, molten sounds on trailing throttle, the sort of aural elementalism exhibited by Icelandic volcanos.

The seventh-generation Porsche 911 Turbo features the first truly new engine in the model’s 35-year history. Result? A car that is greatly improved, and could very well be the most “livable” supercar in the world.

The 911 Turbo delivers performance that competes with cars that cost substantially more, while providing everyday usability that most exotics simply can’t match. In that regard, it retains the spirit of that original 1974 Turbo.

Its force-feed turbochargers help push the 2009 Porsche GT2 past the coveted 200-mph threshold and into the supercar realm where no factory 911 has ventured before.

The Porsche Turbo S is actually quite luxurious. It offers all of the comfort features of the regular Turbo, to which it adds its own special leather upholstery and 30 more horsepower.

Porsche took an already fantastic car and updated it where it matters – under the sheet metal. The new 911 Turbo, while not inexpensive, truly, an everyday supercar. It’s fast and smooth and drives like nobody’s business, which is to say, perfect.

The 2010 911 Turbo is an astonishing, pure driving experience, despite the layers of technology added to cope with its copious power. And it’s still distinctly a Porsche.
