The 2010 Porsche Panamera is a primo luxury sedan and sports-car-for-four all rolled into one. Styling aside, this unique saloon delivers everything it promises, plus a lot more.

Riding in back of the Panamera was as as comfy as in front. Even small ashtrays (remember them?) in the back doors in case you’re so excited by Panamera you need a smoke to calm down.

Bottom line, the 2010 Porsche Panamera is a great way to expand the Porsche lineup. It performs well on the street and the track, and offers enough passenger and cargo room to make it a no-compromise luxury sedan.

The Porsche Panamera is not a four-door 911. As a vehicle designed to compete with flagships like the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8, however, the newcomer is a world-class athlete.

The base Panamera’s big advantage is pricing. The regular S is priced within a few thousand dollars of both the 400-hp BMW 750i and the 382-hp Mercedes-Benz S550. Neither could be called anywhere near as enthusiastic a vehicle as the Porsche.

The Porsche Panamera has the most capable chassis in the segment, yet when you aren’t taking it by the scruff and pushing the limit at ten-tenths, it remains an impressively luxurious tourer.

The 2010 Porsche Panamera’s ride ranges from silky smooth to sporty stiff depending on whether you’re cruising the interstate or at the track. Handling is pinpoint precise.

Once you take control of the steering wheel and drive the car on the road, there is no doubt that the new Porsche Panamera is a 4-door sports car.

Luxurious, composed, pleasant and quite capable, the Panamera 4S was totally the right tool for the wedding/mini-honeymoon job. But what about when the trunk and rear seats aren’t filled with junk? How does the Panamera stack up as a sports sedan? That’s a different review.

Purists may scoff that Porsche doesn’t need a sedan or that the styling isn’t elegant, but this four-passenger Porsche is not only fully capable of hustling around a racetrack, it is also quite comfortable as a luxury sedan. Beauty is as beauty does.
