The all-new 2012 Toyota Prius v has more cargo space and gets 42 mpg city/highway combined. For our family of four, it was a perfect fit; it gave us just enough space to stretch out, but not so much that we were left crying at the gas pump.

The station wagon-like Prius v has the potential of being just as important to the hybrid movement as the current hatchback. V not only stands for versatility, but for volume, as we expect this wagoneer will greatly expand hybrid appeal.

The Prius v, which is the wagon version of the Prius — the v stands for “versatility” — does live up to its purpose. There’s versatility everywhere in this car.

There’s nothing sexy about the Prius V. It delivers exactly what it promises, like it or not. Simply put, it has what many American drivers want — fuel efficiency, reliability, safety, decent road manners and lots of utility — all at a reasonable price.

The 2012 Toyota Prius V is a little bit larger and it should only cost a couple grand more. For that extra money, you’ll get a genuinely useful five-passenger hybrid wagon with plenty of room.

Sporty it is not, but the Prius V is remarkably capable and comfortable, improving on almost everything that made the original Prius a bit of a compromise for many drivers.

The 2012 Toyota Prius V is everything a Toyota Prius hatchback is, only bigger. If the only thing holding you back from a regular Prius was the size, the 2012 Prius V is your car. And why don’t we just call it a wagon and move on?

The Prius V is a fine, well-thought-out vehicle. It’s much better to drive than any other Prius, and it can haul as much as a small CUV and get a combined 42 mpg while doing so.
