At a time when the world’s economy is in shambles and fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are on everyone’s minds, there remains only one car that ticks all the enthusiast boxes without setting off a single alarm. That’s the Volkswagen GTI. Once again, it’s Automobile Magazine’s Automobile of the Year.

The Volkswagen GTI is a fantastic car inside and out. It’s great to drive, easy to live with, and a tremendous value. Would I spend my own money on one? You bet your back bumper I would.

The Volkswagen GTI feel more like a low-end Audi than a high-end VW, and we mean that in the best way possible.

The best part of the overall 2010 GTI experience is that the car keeps its mix of power, handling, and practicality while being fuel-efficient and affordable. Yes, we know you have other options, but the GTI sets itself apart from all of its competitors – really far apart.

All of the go-fast additions to the 2010 Volkswagen GTI truly represent real performance potential. This is not a mock-up of a sporty machine or a “boy racer.” The new GTI is the real deal.

Though lacking in raw horsepower and the electronics integration is sub par, the 2011 VW GTI still gets 5 stars. It leads the hot hatchback category and delivers a driving experience that is the perfect balance of utility and performance.

The Volkswagen GTI, in any form, is a pure delight. We wouldn’t fault anyone for choosing the DSG over the manual transmission, or vice-versa. After all, no matter which transmission you choose, it’ll still be bolted into a GTI.

Some cars seem so inviting, but prove to be disappointing when driven. Others, like the Volkswagen GTI, appear somewhat staid at first blush, but the drive is divine.

The Volkswagen GTI is a remarkably solid, practical and refined cruiser that can turn into a feisty and confidence-inspiring canyon-carver with a twitch of the right pedal.

The newfound interior refinement and better looks of the 2010 Volkswagen GTI are worth it, because this is undoubtedly the best GTI yet.

The 2010 Volkswagen GTI. Yes, the original hot hatch and its segment-founding “you-can-be-responsible-and-still-have-fun” formula remain thankfully intact — when you get behind the wheel, your life will almost assuredly suck less.
