With its tossable lightweight feel, responsive steering and tractable engine, the Porsche Boxster Spyder is a pure joy to drive. It is one of the best ways to spend a sunny day.

The Porsche 911 Turbo is a purpose-built sports car that is tons of fun when you can appreciate it, but a bit of bother when you just want to relax or carry passengers or cargo.

The C-Class is the most affordable way to own a Mercedes-Benz. The sporty character, quality interior and strong engine lineup should appeal to most buyers, but the small rear seat will turn off families.

The XTS is a stylish sedan with plenty of room for five, a beautiful interior environment, and the latest in high-tech and safety features. Shoppers looking for a true sports sedan or more power, however, will be better served by competitors.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is more powerful and efficient, and the lighter weight makes it sportier. The SL550 isn’t a full-on sports car, though. It’s a more relaxed grand tourer that offers very capable handling, but is also tame in traffic.

Anyone who has to carry four or five passengers and their cargo on a regular basis would benefit from a crossover SUV. After that, it’s a matter of how much you want to spend for luxury. If refinement and style are top priorities, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML is an excellent choice.

While the BMW badge is impressive, the 3-Series is more than just an image. It provides unmatched handling and road feel, while delivering a range of very capable engines. However, if you view a car as an appliance, the 3-Series’ high cost won’t appeal to you.

The 2012 Hyundai Accent delivers more power and better fuel economy than any car in its class. Greater ride and handling refinement can be found in several competitors, but the Accent’s price and features will override those concerns.
