Mazda Speed 3
Hatchback |
The MazdaSpeed3 is a blazing buggy that’s agreeable and accommodating in the daily schlep. It’s big enough in back for a couple of kids. It’s hatchback-handy and spacious enough for the cargo you’re likely to haul. And it’s not very expensive.

By whatever alchemy, Honda’s made the 2010 Accord Crosstour such a delight that other Accords, and rival sedans, seem pale.

Riding in back of the Panamera was as as comfy as in front. Even small ashtrays (remember them?) in the back doors in case you’re so excited by Panamera you need a smoke to calm down.

Toyota has moved the 2010 Prius toward the mainstream, to broaden its appeal. It’s bigger, fancier, more powerful, and more fuel efficient than its predecessor.

Cadillac CTS sport wagon is just so darn likable. It makes every suburban, cold-weather, short-hop, kid-schlepping, job-going task seem like a special occasion.

Subaru has enlarged its small Forester SUV, given it a better suspension, furnished even the base model with all you probably need and cut the starting price $1,200.

Hyundai Sonata
Sedan |
The 2011 Sonata gives buyers a huge amount of refinement, driving enjoyment, comfort and style for not a lot of money. And it forces other automakers to confront, and match or trump, Sonata’s package of attributes, which may be the new benchmark for midsize (roughly) family sedans.

We hate indecision as much as the next guy, so we’ll just take the leap. Fiesta’s the best subcompact car you (soon) can buy in the U.S.

The Infiniti G37x test car was immensely satisfying, a seeming no-brainer for buyers looking at that size and price range. Will you prefer the G to, say, a BMW 3 Series or equivalent? Depends on your prejudices.

The MKT really does put Lincoln back in the luxury category and might be the first big step toward rescuing — redeeming? — the brand. Don’t laugh. General Motors did it to Cadillac.

The base V-6 Dodge Challenger has a spirited engine, but should you, contrary to all good sense and moderation, test drive the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, you’re dead meat.
