The Acura ZDX is an SUV with a coupe-like silhouette and sporting aspirations. It’s not the energy-efficient people mover of the future, but it is a step out of the primordial SUV ooze.

I feel a bit giddy driving the Fusion Hybrid. Green can be fun. I wonder how long it takes for this feeling to fade. I’m guessing the first time you’re late for work.

The Grand Cherokee is a throwback to the earlier Chrysler. It might provoke some nostalgia from certain buyers, but it’s hard to believe it will once more drive the company’s sales. The new V-6 delivers neither great mileage nor superior power.

The Honda CR-Z shows the direction that many car companies will travel in an effort to make fun and fast compatible with green and economical.

I had a decent time, especially on the highway with a flood of sunshine pooling into the cabin. I’m not sure it was $36,000 worth of fun — the price as tested — but it clarified my opinion. The Camaro with a V-6, top down, in a state where the sun shines.

The release of the XTS is flummoxing. Cadillac has spent years trying to escape its old-fogey-with-a-cigar image. Driving character is lackluster and it isn’t even interesting to look at.

The RX 450h rides smoothly and is very quiet, but is not a heck of a lot of fun to drive. But the hybrid system is so seamless that I barely noticed. The company has so clearly won the hybrid wars that it was basically a Velvet Revolution.

The Lexus CT 200h falls well short of prestige, yet drives way better than a Prius. Yet I’ve seen Lego sets with less plastic inside, and I was underwhelmed by the busy exterior.

The arrival of a mass-produced electric vehicle (EV), sans gas tank or tail pipes, should feel momentous. You’re not spewing bad stuff into the sky. However, the act of driving the Leaf oddly belies this buzz, feeling like a run-of-the-mill hybrid.

The Ford Fiesta’s a cheapie with adult swagger. It’s a car that I found myself living with easily. I didn’t mind the small size, I generally liked driving it and, most surprising, I didn’t mind being seen in it.

Fiat’s 500 will compete against cars like the Honda Fit, which it outclasses in style and ride, and the pricier Mini, arguably still slightly cooler and better handling. The 500 will stand out for its quirkiness and Euro flair, a mostly modern take on a classic.

Your daughter or son may already have an eye on the Hyundai Veloster. It’s a mess, but a happy one, not unlike a college dorm room. It rides far better than the economy cars of yore, but nobody will mistake it for an Audi.
