Ferrari FF
Hatchback |
Practicality aside, it’s still a Ferrari. The FF hits 62 mph in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of more than 200. There are no obvious drawbacks to the AWD. A short time ago I didn’t even know this car existed. Now it’s all I can think about.

Lexus LFA
Coupe |
The LFA is beautifully weighted, a dancer on the balls of its feet, swiveling easily into tight corners. It took them a long time, but Lexus brings excitement — if only to a very few customers.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG Black Series
Coupe |
The AMG vehicles are getting better all the time. The C63 AMG Black Series is a great one. Its top speed is 186 mph and it reaches 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. Walk around the C63 and its racy intentions are clear.

Ford Mustang
Coupe |
I have a $150,000 sports car in my parking garage, and a U.S.-made 2011 Ford Mustang GT. After a day testing both, which to take out just for the thrill? “The ‘Stang, please.” You can find a little bit of greatness from every bit of this car.

Jaguar XJ
Sedan |
Although bigger in stature, the new Jaguar XJ feels sleeker and sexier than the XF sedan, and is nearly as hot as the XK sports car. Welcome to the cool crowd, Jag.

Audi R8
Convertible |
With the top missing, the proportions of the Audi R8 5.2 Spyder are better — wider and more squished. More exotic. The combination of all-wheel-drive, mid-engine layout, manual transmission and big engine is the perfect algorithm for a convertible.

Rolls-Royce Phantom
Sedan |
Yes, the Phantom is handcrafted, and made in Britain even.
That’s not the reason you opt for a Rolls-Royce though. It’s the synthesis of German engineering and old-world craftsmanship. Everything you touch is actually real and feels good on the skin.

2013
Porsche Boxster
Convertible |
The Boxster got a Vogue-worthy makeover, and now it looks like a miniature version of Porsche’s defunct supercar, the Carrera GT. The old-school manual made me happy, a perfect companion to the light, fast car.

Bentley Mulsanne
Sedan |
I found the Mulsanne to be a big car that proved surprisingly wieldy. The lap of luxury? Yeah, pretty much, but my experience with Bentley’s electronic gadgetry has been consistently poor.

Lamborghini Gallardo
Coupe |
While you can still buy it in colors that don’t exist in nature (nuclear green for example), the Lamborghini Superleggera is a serious sports machine, in direct competition with the Ferrari 430 Scuderia, also a light-weight version of a popular road- going car.

Scion FR-S
Coupe |
Other Scion models may be boxy oddities, but the FR-S is a hummingbird on wheels. This small coupe delivers a flutter of fast, dive-bombing activity and starts at only $25,600.

2011
Mercedes-Benz SLS-Class AMG
Coupe |
The SLS looks best when both doors are open and pointing toward the sky, almost a victory V. Too bad you can’t actually drive with it like that — it would play hell with aerodynamics at the 197 mph top speed.
