Holy son of a botch! Un-farkin’ believable! Redunculous! Sick! Mother-arfer! These censored and modified for our family programming captions were all followed by: “That’s fast!” Yes, the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S is wicked insanely fast.

The Roadster is a gem of engineering, a fabulous car to drive but, let’s be honest, not entirely that practical or affordable.

I’m going to confess something; I miss the Super Duty. Insane, no? I’m usually all into fast and nimble compact cars but this 2011 F-350 Super Duty got to me. You feel like you own the road and you fear nothing. NOTHING!

Toyota Matrix
Hatchback |
The Matrix XR AWD is in a category all its own. At just over $20k, it is the only vehicle that offers AWD, a trunk, some guts and decent room for four. Closest options are the Honda CR-V, Subaru Outback or Ford Escape but their retail prices are at least $5,000 higher.

Audi Q7

Classier, more efficient and luxurious than ever, the Q7 has little competition to really consider in the over-5-passenger accommodators. If Driving with a capital “D” is an important criteria in your purchase, only the Q can really do.

Volkswagen Touareg TDI
SUV/Truck |
The Touareg is not inexpensive but it does wedge itself into its segment at or near the top end. Fighting the likes of the aforementioned Toyota 4Runner, Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder, it also tackles the upper crust which includes the Audi Q7, the Infiniti FX, Lexus RX and BMW X5.

If these real-deal SUVs are your bag, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one as well-rounded as the 2010 Toyota 4Runner. Just make sure to delete the side steps…

Chevrolet Silverado

The final result is a truck that is pleasant and confidence-inspiring. I am here to state that after having driven the Ram 2500 HD, the Ford F-250 and a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, the Chevy has the best drive.

Ford Fiesta

With an important predicted rise in small cars over the next few years, the Fiesta could not come at a better time or at a more appealing price point. If reliability is up to snuff, this will hands-down be the one to beat in the category.

The Tucson is a great deal, as per Hyundai. Similarly equipped Asian products are $1,000 to $2,000 more and offer nothing as an incentive for their purchase over that of the Tucson. If anything, the Hyundai has a better warranty, looks way more modern and should be as reliable.

Although often referred to as an ugly duckling, there is no doubting the BMW X6’s machismo, especially in “M” guise. As for the driver, that’s a whole other story…
